Christ - Full length, blessing - Temple's icon
The "despot" icon of the iconostasis, is always the first on the right side of the temple. This position was established to remind the Christians that Jesus is the resurrected winner of the world and death and is now "seated at the right side of God"
Christ - Detail of His head
The face of the Christ is the most difficult face in hagiography. It is required special knack in order to ascribe the specific type of the face, His expressiveness, His Divine form, the mercy, the love and the strictness.
Christ - Detail
The hands are large and different from one another. The right, blessing, is thin, delicate little fingers barely lighted, reminds us this hand is not the firm hand of a hard king, but the delicate and gentle hand of the Savior of the world. With steady motion, Christ blesses each person reminding that he came to save the whole world with His word and His sacrifice. The left hand, heavy and brightly lit, steadily keeps the Gospel reminding the Christians to be committed to His word and that Christ and the Gospel is one and the same.
